"I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST HALLOWEEN"
FADE IN:
EXT. FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD - NIGHT
It's Halloween and happy kids are Trick-or-Treating. Some
wear store-bought masks and outfits, a few wear home-made
costumes like cardboard box robot and giant fruit.
Hottie teen JENNY and her boyfriend REGGIE encourage her kid
brother ADAM to get started. Adam wears a white bedsheet
with eyeholes cut out.
ADAM
Look at those masks and costumes!
How am I supposed to compete with
that? All I got is a sheet!
JENNY
You don't need to complete, you just
say "Trick or Treat" and they chuck
candy into your bucket.
ADAM
This sucks.
Jenny points to a house whose porch light is on.
JENNY
No one's gone there yet. Shoo!
She pushes Adam toward the house. Off he goes, reluctantly.
JENNY
Remember! You're a ghost! Scare
the shit out of them!
Reggie pulls Jenny close.
REGGIE
Remember, you're a babe. Squeeze
the love out of me.
Jenny giggles and they kiss and explore each other.
EXT. FRIENDLY HOUSE 1 - NIGHT
Just as Adam's about to knock on the door, he looks left and
sees another KID wearing a white ghost sheet just like his.
The kid disappears around a corner.
Adam looks at Jenny and Reggie, sees them in a lip-lock.
ADAM
Gross!
Adam runs after the other Ghost Sheet Kid.
EXT. FRIENDLY STREET - NIGHT
Adam follows Ghost Sheet Kid at a distance.
Ghost Sheet Kid suddenly stops.
Adam hides behind a parked car. He peeks out.
Ghost Sheet Kid stares at a house whose porch light is on.
After a long pause, Ghost Sheet Kid walks up the path.
Adam crouches behind a bush and watches.
EXT. FRIENDLY HOUSE 2 - NIGHT
Ghost Sheet Kid knocks on the door, a SMILING WOMAN answers.
SMILING WOMAN
Oh my goodness! It's a ghost!
Ghost Sheet Kid doesn't speak yet.
SMILING WOMAN
Hold on just a second!
She reaches inside and brings out a bag of goodies.
GHOST SHEET KID
Do you remember me?
Smiling Woman looks at The Kid and frowns.
SMILING WOMAN
I don't think I--
Smiling Woman's eyes widen in shock. Ghost Sheet Kid's sheet
flaps up and down in frantic motion. Blood spatters the
porch wall.
Smiling Woman collapses on the porch. Her dead eyes seem to
stare directly at Adam.
Adam's eyes widen in fear.
Ghost Sheet Kid turns and walks down the path, passing the
bush Adam is hiding behind. Adam trembles with fear.
EXT. FRIENDLY STREET - NIGHT
Ghost Sheet Kid walks down the street.
Adam follows Ghost Sheet Kid again, because in horror movies,
people do really stupid things.
EXT. FRIENDLY HOUSE 3 - NIGHT
Ghost Sheet Kid stops and stares at another house. Adam
hides behind a picket fence and watches.
Ghost Sheet Kid walks up to the porch, knocks on the door.
GRUMPY OLD MAN answers.
GRUMPY OLD MAN
What are you supposed to be, a daiper?
Grumpy Old Man looks up and down the street.
GRUMPY OLD MAN
Why don't you come in, kid? I got
candy.
Adam waves frantically, trying to tell the guy, go back
inside! Grumpy Old Man sees him and scowls.
GRUMPY OLD MAN
Forget it. G'wan, beat it. Go bother
someone else.
GHOST SHEET KID
Do you remember me?
GRUMPY OLD MAN
Why should I remember you? Get out
of here. Damn kids.
Grumpy Old Man jerks in shock, eyes wide. Ghost Sheet Kid's
sheet flaps up and down as bloody murder is done.
Grumpy Old Man collapses, dead.
Ghost Sheet Kid turns and walks down the path. His sheet's
covered in blood but it's Halloween, who's going to notice?
EXT. FRIENDLY STREET - NIGHT
Adam looks up and down the street. No sign of Ghost Sheet
Kid. Where'd he go? Adam turns round -- and he's there!
Ghost Sheet Kid whips Adam's sheet away. Adam's terrified.
GHOST SHEET KID
I knew you were watching.
ADAM
I won't tell anyone, I promise!
GRAVEL VOICE KID
Huh.
EXT. CEMETERY - NIGHT
Adam stands among a sea of old tombstones. He looks around,
confused. What just happened?
Ghost Sheet Kid stands at a nearby grave. Fresh flowers
partially cover the gravestone inscription, OUR BELOVED SON.
GHOST SHEET KID
A year ago they took my life away
from me. This is my night. My one
chance for revenge. It's the rules.
Adam slowly pulls Ghost Sheet Kid's sheet away. Worms and
maggots cover Ghost Sheet Kid's face and head. His bloodshot
lidless eyes stare at Adam who is horrified.
GHOST SHEET KID
It's 'cause I wasn't laid to rest,
see? I'll show you.
Ghost Sheet Kid touches Adam's forehead with a bony finger.
EXT. FRIENDLY HOUSE 2 - NIGHT (FLASHBACK - KID'S POV)
Smiling Woman sports a black eye and is drunk as a skunk,
holding onto the door frame for support.
SMILING WOMAN
Not tonight, kid. Try old man Harkins
across the street. Grumpy old bastard
always loves Trick or Treat.
Laughing hysterically, she slams the door.
EXT. FRIENDLY HOUSE 3 - NIGHT (FLASHBACK - KID'S POV)
Grumpy Old Man opens his door invitingly.
GRUMPY OLD MAN
Yeah come on in, kid, I got candy
and stuff here. C'mon, hurry up.
INT. FRIENDLY HOUSE 3 - NIGHT (FLASHBACK - KID'S POV)
Grumpy Old Man closes and bolts the door, CLICK, SNICK, CLICK.
INT. FRIENDLY HOUSE CELLAR - NIGHT (FLASHBACK - KID'S POV)
Grumpy Old Man stands at the top of stairs leading down into
a dark cellar.
GRUMPY OLD MAN
Just you and me, kid. It'll be fun.
EXT. CEMETERY - NIGHT
Adam opens his eyes and gasps! He saw it all.
ADAM
He took you down into his cellar.
GHOST SHEET KID
Yeah.
ADAM
He was hoping another kid would come
to his door tonight. Alone. So he
could do it again.
GHOST SHEET KID
He'll never do it again. I gotta
go.
ADAM
Go where?
GHOST SHEET KID
This isn't my grave. It's just where
they put a stone with my name on it.
Adam thinks for a moment... then realizes...
ADAM
He buried you in his cellar.
GHOST SHEET KID
I think so. Maybe.
ADAM
The cops might search his house. If
they find you, maybe you'll end up
here?
GHOST SHEET KID
If they find me.
ADAM
I'll make sure they do.
Adam is talking to himself -- Ghost Sheet Kid is gone.
EXT. FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD - NIGHT
Jenny and Reggie are relieved when Adam turns up.
JENNY
Where have you been? We were worried.
ADAM
I'm okay. Wait here, I'll be back
in a minute, I promise.
Adam runs off down the street.
JENNY
Adam!
EXT. FRIENDLY HOUSE 3 - NIGHT
Now a crime scene with COPS, an ambulance, and a DETECTIVE
trying to figure it out. Adam approaches the Detective.
ADAM
I heard he kept bodies in his cellar.
Remember the kid that went missing
last year?
Adam walks away. The Detective watches him go, thinking.
